The Phillies and NL East Standings

June 26th 2008 14:25
The Philllies finally win against Oakland, after a season high 6 game losing streak. Yep. The Phils have lost 8 games out of their last 10. This is uncharacteristic for the 2008 season they had been having that put them at the top for the NL East. Nevertheless, as Phillies fans should know by now, it doesn't seem to come easy.

Here are the current Major league Basball - National League East Standings:

Phillies W-43 L-36
Marlins W-40 L-37 GB-2
Mets W-38 L-39 GB-4
Braves W-39 L-41 GB-4.5

Nationals W-31 L-49 GB-12.5

So the Phillies still remain in the lead, but they need to watch their backs with Florida two games behind. Then there's the Mets. Sure their 4 games back, but the Phils came back last year with a similiar scenario to beat the Mets and take the lead. Then we have the Braves just a half game behind the Mets. Earlier in the season when the Phillies were blazing hot, I would have said that they definitelly are going to win the NL East. I still would like to back them up on that. At this point in the season, anything could happen. One thing is for certain. The Phillies cannot afford to have another L streak like the one they just had.

The Phils play Oakland today and it is scheduled to be an afternoon game. They won
4-0 last night. The Phils need this win today.

Phillies Phillies Phillies

June 20th 2008 22:08
Tonight the Phillies take on the Angels at Citizen's Bank Park, the Phillies homestand. I dare not attempt to make a prediction of the outcome. I just hope the Phils regrouped on their day off yesterday.

After playing against some of the toughest teams in the MLB, the Phils seemed to respond with a new trend. Instead of winning the series against the opponent, they are losing 2 games to 1. And they come out strong in the first game winning, but tucker out the next two. This is some switch after consistently winning series after series for some time. The offense had gotten weak and far from playing their best ball. Chase Utley was in the worst batting slump I ever saw him in, and made a huge error the last game they played against the Red Sox. I may be wrong here, but did I see the prospective all-star second baseman drop a simple little-league play ball that just popped out of his glove on what would have been the third out. I like Utley, but damn. What was up with that?

For the sake of Phillies fans everywhere on the East, get it together guys.

THERE WON'T BE BLOOD

June 17th 2008 04:00
What I am about to tell you is a 100% true story. First, I want to say that the act of eating sunflower seeds may be regarded as not ladylike. I mean you're putting them in your mouth, cracking the seeds open whichever way works best, and spitting out the shell, or tossing it on the ground. If you do this long enough during a sunflower seed eating session, eventually a whole lot of saliva will find it's way on the shell, maybe on the ground, and probably on your fingers. So some would certainly have said that this is not ladylike. I say...who cares!!! They taste great.

Okay. Here is the story. After attending many rookie level baseball games for youngsters aged 6-8, I have rediscovered the delicious snack and fun eating style of the sunflower seed. The kind still packed in the shell. One night, I decided to improve my skills at the art if you will, of eating these things. I read the packaging on the kind we had. I can't remember the namebrand. Anyway, it's talking about the different ways you can eat them. The skilled can place a whole bunch in their mouth at once, store them in a cheek (like a chipmunk) and one by one using teeth and tongue, spit out the shell... yada yada yada. I decided to try this. It was a challenge I must admit. I really had to concentrate.

Sometimes I completely shattered the shell into the seed, also shattered, and that was a goner. So, I would try again, afterall, practice makes perfect, right? I was kinda getting the hang of it, placing just a little more in my mouth for the added challenge. Hey..they taste good. All of a sudden, as I'm working on a seed, I feel this pinching on the end of my tongue. And holy blank, I figure out that a shell is clamped crab-claw style on the end of my tongue. I couldn't get the thing off easily either. It was on there so good and it hurt too. I finally had to actually pull if off with my fingers, and it hurt like hell. My tongue is still feeling this several days later. No kidding. I will say that there was no blood, but one of my taste buds is sore.

Who ever thought that this could happen? I mean, that sunflower seeds could be dangerous. I didn't. Maybe I just got carried away with not being ladylike. Anyway, since there's no warning that I noticed on the packaging, just beware and slightly cautious of attacking sunflower seeds. And probably, there won't be blood.

The Phillies slam in another win

June 17th 2008 03:10
So the Phillies didn't win Sunday against the Cardinals, and lost the series. That's alright. They still remain in the lead. They just won 8-2 tonight against the Boston Red Sox.

Cole Hamels pitched another great game, and the Phillies were belting in the runs. Jimmy Rollins started things off for the Philadelphia Phillies in the first inning when he slammed in a single run homerun. Ryan Howard had another 4 RBI game with a two run homerun in the first inning as well. Shane Victorino deserves credit for hitting a line drive grounder in the outfield too. Cole Hamels was successful in bunting bringing runners to second and third. Pat Burrell hit a trilple which was the first for him since 2006. I wasn't seeing much out of Utley at bat. He appears to be in a bit of a slump, and now is a good time to pull out of that.

The Phillies play cards

June 15th 2008 01:23
The outcome in last night's game was the Phillies hammered the Cardinals, 20-2.

Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, and Pat Burrell of the Phillies hit single run homeruns in the first inning driving the score up to 3-0. That's back to back to back homeruns. The Phillies just kept driving runs in the whole game in most of the innings. Kyle Kendrick was pitching an awesome game holding the Cards in place

The Phillies score 3 to win

June 13th 2008 04:20
The Phillies played the Marlins on a scorching hot Florida night, winning the final game of the three game series, 3-0. The win keeps the Phils in a 3 game lead in the NL East with Marlins in second. The Mets and Braves also lost their games which keeps them at bay.

Jamie Moyer had a tremendous night tonight getting credit combined with Lidge for the shut-out win

Phillies lose two to the fish

June 12th 2008 03:47
Phillies vs. Marlins overview:

The Phillies lost game number 1 of this three game series with the final score being 5-4, Marlins. Brett Myers gave up three runs when pitching in the first inning. The Phils chipped away, but never dominated and Myers continued pitching rather non-promising until he was taken out around the 6th inning.

The Phillies win 6-3 against the Atlanta Braves this afternoon, making it a 1-2-3 series sweep.

Things were sweltering at Turner Stadium in the high heat, and the Phillies did what they have been doing so well; driving runs in late in the game. Heat or no heat, the Phils remain hot

Those fightin Phillies

June 7th 2008 05:45
The Philadelphia Phillies did it again with another come back win. If you are a true Phillies fan and you were watching the game, then you were probably sitting on the edge of your seat like I was at the top of the 9th inning. What a game!

It was 1-0 with the Phils on top. Jamie Moyer was pitching a great game, but one little slip up and suddenly it's 2-1 with the Braves taking the lead. The Phils just couldn't get a run in even when the bases were loaded; Atlanta made a skillful double play to end things there. But then in the 9th, when it looks like this will be a loss for the Phils, things start happening. What appears to be the game ending fly ball and should be an easy catch, is dropped on an error and the Phils tie things up. Now it's 2-2 and the Braves are held at 2 so the game goes into the 10th inning. This guy for the Phillies pinch hits that I can't even remember seeing before he's been on the DL so long and hits a double to start things off. Shane Victorino gets a triple!! Utley finally gets his first hit for the night and the fightin Phillies score two more runs. So now it's the bottom of the 10th with the Braves starting to get things going and are on their way to tying things up again or at least it looked that way. Shane Victorino stopped that from happening, saving the game for the Phils with an incredible play from center field throwing a straight shot perfect cannon throw to Coste. He catches it and makes the tag in literally a fraction of a second for out number 3. The Phils win this heart pounding game 4-3
