Atlanta Braves

March 3rd 2010 18:59
The Atlanta Braves can they get back to the succes they had in the 90s. Not this year not in my opinion. Bobby Cox will not return after this year so you know the Braves would love to win the World Series again before he leaves. Their lineup is not as good as in years past mostly because of injury. Pitching will be the key to the Braves succes this year.Lowe and Jurrjuns are still number one and two starters. Moylan is still the work horse of the bullpen with new closer Wagner in Atlanta for one year with an option for next year. They did trade away Rafael Soriano for Jesse Chavez, and let Mike Gonzalez sign with the Orioles. The Braves do have the best rotation in the National League. "Their starting rotation, one through five, is going to hold some teams down," Braves TV analyst Brian Jordan said. The bullpen has been upgraded to with additions of Wagner and Saito.

Troy Glaus is another major addition to the Braves in the offseason. Beacause of shoulder surgery, Glaus didn't play until Sept. 2 in 2009 and only hit .172 in 32 at-bats. Braves first basemen hit only 19 homers last year, and most of them (12) came from late season pickup Adam LaRoche. A healthy Glaus will help them get what they been looking for and that is run support.
Alot of Braves fans wanna see Jason Heyward on the opening day roster. With McLouth, Diaz, and Cabrera there is no need to rush Heyward up so quickly. Heyward can hit for average, power, can run, and throw, he is a true all around player.
Projected Lineup
1. CF Nate McLouth .257 in 2009
2. 2B Martin Prado 11 HRs in 2009
3. 3B Chipper Jones 71 RBIs in 2009
4. 1B Troy Glaus .236 career average as cleanup hitter
5. C Brain McCann 138 games played in 2009
6. SS Yunel Escobar 528 at bats in 2009

7. LF Matt Diaz 56 runs in 2009
8. RF Melky Cabrera 13 HRs in 2009

Projected Rotation
1 RHP Derek Lowe 15-10 in 2009
2 RHP Jair Jurrjens 2.60 ERA in 2009
3 RHP Tim Hudson 30 Ks in 2009
4 RHP Tommy Hanson 11-4 2.89 ERA in 2009
5 RHP Kenshin Kawakami 7-12 3.86 ERA in 2009

My Prediction:
Glaus will provide the power and Jones will have a bounce back season. Lowe needs to bounce back after a bad second half. If Heyward starts the bench will get a great boost. Cox as always will get 110 percent out of every player on the roster and reach 2,500 wins in his career. The Braves had 86 wins last year i thimk it is safe to say they will almost copy that. I will say they will be 8 games out of the NL East with a 87-75 record and no shot at a World series ring.
