National League East Champs
October 1st 2008 15:01
The Phillies got the job done winning 4-3 over the Nationals, giving them back-to-back NL East title Championships. Once again, the fightin' Phillies make a come back from behind victory, to overcome their rival - Mets. And I think it was rightfully so. Afterall, The Phils were in first place mid-season. I remember it being the Mets down about 5 games or more. Then Interleague play happened and the Phils messed up getting them in the hole in the first place. Hey, as all Philly fans know by now, "it wouldn't be the Philly way if it were easy." I believe It was Jimmy Rollins who made a statement close to those words.
The game was sweet yet nerve-racking. Things were getting scary in the top of the ninth inning. The bases were loaded with one out. Phillies amazing closer, Brad Lidge was on the mound. He hadn't blown a save yet at this point. He's sweatin'......large sweat drops! Every fan must have had the world's largest Monarch batting around madly in their stomachs. The ball is hit hard and it looks like...oh....damn...it's going down the middle...oh, but wait.....yeahhhhhhhh!!!!!!! Jimmy Rollins stops it on a remarkable dive catch, tosses it perfectly to Utley who throws it to Howard at first, and the double play is made, the game is over, and the Philllies win. Whew! Extreme tension is lifted. Then the celebration. I had the wish-I-was-there feeling when I watched the party unfold on my tv screen. The game I went to most recently was last Mondays game when the Phillies beat the Braves in the first game of the series. That was good, but shoot, I picked the wrong game, because this would have been great.
Okay, so what now? The Phillies are in the play-offs, but they know it's gotta be better than last year. They will be playing against the Brewers with the first game being today on TBS at 3PM, Eastern time. Can they beat the Brewers? Absolutely! But, it won't be easy.
So all you Philly fans out there, keep cheering and supporting the team. Get ready cause a little butterfly just told me that the Phils are going to go a long way.
GO PHILLIES!!! THIS BALL IS OUTTA HERE!!!!!!!!
