Cincinnati Reds
March 9th 2010 16:29
The Reds had little offense in 2009 and did very little to address it for 2010. They picked up SS Orlando Cabrera and resigned C Ramon Herdanez. The Reds bats of the bench will consit of Jonny Gomes and Aaron Miles who was acquired form Oakland. The Reds offense does have some exceptional young talent. Joey Votto is one of the best hitters in the National Leauge. Drew Stubbs is a favorable defensive CF. Jay Bruce is not even 23 yet. His production will be offset because of the struggling veterens. The Reds have no sure fire youngsters comming through the farm system. If any of the starters go down there is no one to back them up.
The Reds have a good pitching staff. Former top prospect Homer Bailey showed that he will be a force in 2009 after a horrible 2008. I would not put it past Dusty Baker to make a major mistake when picking the fifth starter in the rotation. The Reds are very well covered incase of an implosion. I don't see Champman starting in the majors this year. The Reds have enough good arms Cordero, Rhodes, Burton, Owings in the bullpen that they will be just fine.
Lineup
1. CF Drew Stubbs: .267 career batting average
2. SS Orlando Cabrera: 2x Gold Glove winner
3. 1B Joey Votto: National Leauge Player of the week in 2009
4. 2B Brandon Phillips: Gold Glove Winner 2008
5. 3B Scott Rolen: 5x All Star
6. LF Jonny Gomes: 86 career home runs
7. RF Jay Bruce: 2x Baseball America Minor Leauge All Star
8. C Ryan Hanigan: 22 career RBIs
Rotation
1. Bronson Arroyo: Joe Nuzhall Good Guy Award
2. Johnny Cueto: 20-25 career record
3. Aaron Harang: 4.24 career ERA
4. Homer Bailey: National Leauge Player Of The Week 2009
5. Micah Owings: Silver Slugger Award Winner
Prediction: The Reds have plenty of talent at the big leauge level. I love the middle of the lineup, but the rest of it won't be that hot. The rotation is needs a first-class number 5 starter. Could be a sleeper team like everyone is saying, but i don't see them being a World Series contender. The Reds will end in 4th place in the N.L. Central with a 66-96 record.

Thx for writing about my favorite team. I hope you are wrong in your prediction but as recent history suggests you are probably correct.
To a real fan though, even the addition of a utility infielder could be the difference between a last place finish and a World Serie championship.
