Colorado Rockies

March 15th 2010 15:58
The Colorado Rockies started last season with a 18-28 record that cost Clint Hurdle his job. Jim Tracy took over and led the team to 92 wins and a wild card berth. The Rockies loss to the Phillies but still had Tracy named NL manger of the year. Expectations are high in Colorado. No major moves were done in the off season to help this team.

Lineup

1. LF Carlos Gonzalez- 55 career RBIs

2. CF Dexter Fowler- 4 career home runs

3. 1B Todd Helton- 3x National Leauge Gold Glover

4. SS Troy Tulowitzki- 2007 This Year In Baseball Rookie Of The Year

5. RF Brad Hawpe- 2009 MLB All Star

6. 3B Ian Stewart- .238 career average

7. C Chris Iannetta- 154 career RBIs

8. 2B Clint Barmes- 53 career home runs

Iannetta needs to be more disaplined at the plate. Miguel Olivo will be trying st steal his spot, who is another guy who doesn't hit for average but has great power numbers. Helton hit .325 with 86 RBIs and 79 runs scored last year. Barmes had a .245 average with 23 home runs and 76 RBis. Stewart had a break through year in 2009. Tulowitzki is the ancor of the team after being hurt in 2008 he came back and had a decent year in 2009. The outfield has three underrated players in Gonzalez, Fowler, and Hawpe. Hawpe has had at least 3 straight years with 85 RBIs. Fowler was put to good use in 2009 with 27 stolen bases. Fowler's speed at the top of the lineup is what keeps Colorado in the playoff hunt. Gonzalez only had 258 at bats but put them all to good use. Gonzalez and Fowler hitting in the top of the lineup will be dangorus especilly with the three four combo the Rockies have.

Rotation

1. Ubaldo Jimenez- 441 career strikeouts

2. Aaron Cook- 2008 All Star

3. Jorge De La Rosa- 5.18 career ERA

4. Jason Hammel- 17-23 career record

5. Jeff Francis- 536 career strikeouts

On the mound Colorado relys on young talent. Huston Street was considered on of the most feared closers in baseball a few years ago. The Rockies will have to replace Marquis who left for the Nationals. That means that after winning 15 games Jimenez is the new staff ace. Rosa is alos ace material. Both Jimenez and De La Rosa are threats to win over 15 games in 2010.

Prediction: WOW! This could be a real good year for the Rockies. Still i feel they need an everyday player at first. You have Helton but he is aging and won't be around forever. Giambi is not a fielder he is more for his bat off the bench. Second in the NL West is not bad. The wild card spot will most likely be where they sit in 2010. 10 games out. 102-60 record.
