Duty on the fly

Today it gives me great pleasure to introduce to you a long time friend of mine, Ms. Iva Clapper.
-"thank you, thank you. It's great to be here."
Now readers, we have added a new segment that we hope you will all enjoy, and Iva Clapper here is going to take over; I am just delighted to have her working and teaming up with me. This is great!
-"thank you. I'm happy to help out. What I will be doing is answering letters...there are just so many and we want to address everyone so this is going to be such fun. I can't wait. Here is a sample letter just to give you an idea. It reads":
Dear Iva:
Last week I was making a salad, and I found a dead fly in between lettuce leaves. I washed the lettuce and went ahead with making the salad and we ate it. Then a thought occurred to me. What if the fly had left eggs on the lettuce before it bit the dust? Of course I threw the fly out, but if there were eggs, we ate 'em. Is there anything I need to be worried about

Iva - "Listen Marsha, the fly was dead, and I'm guessing you had the lettuce in the fridge right? So whatever the fly left behind, eggs, fly duty, and so on, it was chilled, and the eggs would not have survived. More than likely,no they wouldn't - I'm just using sense. So what, you maybe took in some dead fly eggs, and they will remain dead, or they got washed away when you rinsed the lettuce. Not to worry Marsha. Besides it was a week ago. Cheers to you and your family. Enjoy many salads.

Awesome Iva. That was a good response. Those darn flys can be pesks as we all know. I'm sure we have all taken in a few fly eggs or duty or even maybe a fly, who knows.
Okay. That's all the time we have now, but stay tuned for more Dear Iva letters in the future.
Keeping the Peace,
D. C. Jones and Iva Clapper
