Fightin Phils Take Five
October 17th 2008 13:36
The Phillies did it! It took them five games to win the NLCS against the Dodgers and it took Philly fans 15 years to see it happen. And now that it has happened, we must wait patiently for the World Series to begin on October 22, 2008. Who exactly the Red hats will play has yet to be determined.
Cole Hamels was so smooth on the mound, he pitched a near shut-out. It was Manny Ramirez that hit a homerun against him, but not to worry. The Phillies were 5 up at that point. The teams confidence echoed in the Dodgers stadium and I could smell the victory from 3 thousand miles away. Then that final out came with Brad "Lights out" Lidge closing things down. Carlos Ruiz made the catch, an easy pop up in foul ball land. The celebration soon followed and in Philadelphia the party took to the streets well after midnight. Even the mayor of Philadelphia was celebrating right amongst the people of Philly. Great times!!
I was wrong about my prediction though. I felt things would come back to Citizens Bank Park for game 6 where the Phils would get the win. I'm happy that they got it done though and it just gave them extra rest time. It also gives the skipper and Shane Victorino more time they need to cope for the recent loses of family members. My condolences go out to both of them.
So now it's up to the Rays or the Red Sox to win the ALCS, and play the Phillies in the World Series. After the amazing comeback last night for the Red Sox, I'm not sure who will win. I have a strong feeling it will be the Rays though. They will be playing in front of a home crowd for the next game, and game seven if needed, but Rays just need one more.
GO PHILLIES!!! Congratulations National League Champions.
