New York Mets
March 5th 2010 16:45
Will the Mets be as disappointing as 2009? Last year was just so sad for the Mets. That is all over and now they have good reason to look forward to 2010. Bay signed a four year deal and Reyes is back.
Mets have a great ace at the top of the rotation. Johan Santana who in 2009 had a late season injury that caused him for the first time since 2004 he didn't start 33 games. He should be healthy to start the season, and is one of the best in baseball when 100%.
Mets have one of the best closers in all of baseball in Francisco Rodriguez. The rest of the pen is thin as the best returnees are Pedro Feliciano and Sean Green. Bright side is, if there is one is that Ryota Igarashi and Kelvim Escobar, if healthy will get the ball to K-rod with the lead. This bullpen is very thin in the middle period.
Mets have major talent in the infeild. David Wright seen a slump in his power numbers last year, but they will come back in 2010. Jose Reyes is another major talent that will be just like Wright trying to bounce back in 2010. He only had 147 ABs last year. The young talent need to really rebound in 2010.
Mets are much stronger in the outfeild. Jason Bay was a top power threat on the market. Carlos Beltran will be another great power threat when he returns in May. Veteran Gary Matthews will be the Centerfeilder while Beltran is out. Jeff Francoeur is the Rightfielder and another power threat. The lineup will not be at it's full potential until Beltran is 100%.
Potenital Lineup
1 CF Angel Pagan 88 games .306 AVG
2 2B Luis Castillo Bounce back season in 2009
3 SS Jose Reyes 18 runs scored and 15 RBIs before injury
4 LF Jason Bay 36 HRs 199 RBIs career best
5 3B David Wright 164 Hits in 2009
6 1B Daniel Murphy Hit .291 after July
7 RF Jeff Francoeur 20 2Bs and 10 HRs in 2009
8 C Rod Barajas 19 HRS 71 RBIs for the Blue Jays
Potential Rotation
1 LHP Johan Santana 13-9 in 25 games
2 RHP Mike Pelfrey Led team in starts and innings pitched
3 RHP John Maine 4.43 ERA in 15 starts
4 LHP Oliver Perez 6.92 ERA 1.92 WHIP in 14 starts
5 LHP Jon Niese 1 win and 18 strikeouts
Prediction: If Reyes and Beltran are healthy and Wright finds his stroke this could be a dominate lineup. K-Rod was effective but not dominate in his first year in New York. Alex Cora is one of baseball's best backup middle infielders. Jerry Manuel will have his hands full until Beltran comes back. Still need another Starter that could be a number one to make any kind of noise in the postseason. 28 games out of the East with a 76-86 record.
