Pittsburgh Pirates
March 12th 2010 16:13
The Pittsburgh Pirates haven't had a winning season since 1992. 2010 could be their first since the web went mainstream. Akinori Iwamura comes to Pittsburgh form a team that shocked the world in 2008, Tampa Bay Rays. Ryan Church was signed to be a backup to 2 players who didn't even play full seasons in 2009.
The Pirates have a solid rotation. Ohlendorf was 11-10 in his first full season last year. Joel Hanrahan will be the new Pittsburgh closer. Hanrahan will be a big step up from Capps in 2009.
Lineup
1. CF Andrew Mccutchen- Baseball America Rookie Of The Year 2009
2. 2B Akimori Iwamura- 2x World Baseball Classic Champion
3. RF Garrett Jones- 49 career RBIs
4. C Ryan Doumit- 46 career home runs
5. LF Lastings Milledge- .267 career average
6. 3B Andy LaRoche- 92 career RBIs
7. 1B Jeff Clement- 7 career home runs
8. SS Ronny Cedeno- .240 career average
Rotation
1. Zach Duke- 2009 All Star
2. Paul Maholm- 506 career strikeouts
3. Ross Ohlendorf- 4.54 career ERA
4. Charlie Morton- 9-17 career record
5. Kevin Hart- 88 career strikeouts
Prediction: I hear all the experts say that the Pirates are not on the right track. I am not an expert, just a regular casual fan who decide to write about something i like. Maybe there are no top name stars in Pittsburgh but i have a feeling they will shock everyone this year. McCutchen and Iwamura nice one two in the lineup. Duke is a pleasing top of rotation guy. The rest of the team is either young or haven't had too much playing time. I will call this right now, the only guy that will say this i can guarantee that. Pittsburgh will have a winning season. If they had at least one other starting pitcher as good as Duke i would say contend for a wild card spot but since there is none 3rd in the N.L. Central. 7.5 games out. 83-79
