San Diego Padres
March 17th 2010 16:38
The San Diego Padres were founded in 1969 and have won the pennant two times and lost in the World Series both of them times. The Padres are one of four teams to never have a pitcher throw a no hitter, and one of two teams to never have a player ht for the cycle.
Lineup
1. CF Tony Gwynn Jr.- 166 career hits
2. 2B David Eckstein- 2x All Star
3. 1B Adrian Gonzalez- 2x All Star
4. 3B Chase Headley- 21 career home runs
5. LF Kyle Blanks- .247 career average
6. RF Will Venable- 48 career RBIs
7. C Yorvit Torrealba- 36 career home runs
8. SS Everth Cabrera- .255 career average
Adrian Gonzalez is your main threat in this lineup. Your next so called power threats are Headley, Blanks, and Venable but they only hit 5 less homers combined than Gonzalez. His credit though should go to the other teams because they are use to playing in then when Gonzalez comes up he can just tap one over the outfeilders heads.
Rotation
1. Jon Garland- 2005 All Star
2. Kevin Correia- 431 career strikeouts
3. Chris Young- 3.87 career ERA
4. Clayton Richard- 11-10 career record
5. Tim Stauffer- 5.15 career ERA
There is a lot to think about in San Diego. Peavy is gone and Young is coming back from injury. Garland is a mid rotation kind of starter and to put him as a number one in which will most likely be one of his final seasons will be a strech. The rest of the rotation is either young or not proven yet.
Prediction: The San Diego Padres are worthy team but not worthy of the playoffs in 2010. The hitting is just immoral minus Gonzalez. The Padres could have done better than Cabrera at short. That is the biggest weakness on defense i belive. The pitching i see haveing a breakout year. So wiht all that being said i will have to say 22 games out of the West. 73-89 record.
