THERE WON'T BE BLOOD

What I am about to tell you is a 100% true story. First, I want to say that the act of eating sunflower seeds may be regarded as not ladylike. I mean you're putting them in your mouth, cracking the seeds open whichever way works best, and spitting out the shell, or tossing it on the ground. If you do this long enough during a sunflower seed eating session, eventually a whole lot of saliva will find it's way on the shell, maybe on the ground, and probably on your fingers. So some would certainly have said that this is not ladylike. I say...who cares!!! They taste great.
Okay. Here is the story. After attending many rookie level baseball games for youngsters aged 6-8, I have rediscovered the delicious snack and fun eating style of the sunflower seed. The kind still packed in the shell. One night, I decided to improve my skills at the art if you will, of eating these things. I read the packaging on the kind we had. I can't remember the namebrand. Anyway, it's talking about the different ways you can eat them. The skilled can place a whole bunch in their mouth at once, store them in a cheek (like a chipmunk) and one by one using teeth and tongue, spit out the shell... yada yada yada. I decided to try this. It was a challenge I must admit. I really had to concentrate.
Sometimes I completely shattered the shell into the seed, also shattered, and that was a goner. So, I would try again, afterall, practice makes perfect, right? I was kinda getting the hang of it, placing just a little more in my mouth for the added challenge. Hey..they taste good. All of a sudden, as I'm working on a seed, I feel this pinching on the end of my tongue. And holy blank, I figure out that a shell is clamped crab-claw style on the end of my tongue. I couldn't get the thing off easily either. It was on there so good and it hurt too. I finally had to actually pull if off with my fingers, and it hurt like hell. My tongue is still feeling this several days later. No kidding. I will say that there was no blood, but one of my taste buds is sore.
Who ever thought that this could happen? I mean, that sunflower seeds could be dangerous. I didn't. Maybe I just got carried away with not being ladylike. Anyway, since there's no warning that I noticed on the packaging, just beware and slightly cautious of attacking sunflower seeds. And probably, there won't be blood.
