World Series Champs Phinally
October 30th 2008 14:19
Baseball season is Phinally over and the Phillies are the winners - the champs - the "team to beat", after 28 years of never coming close or coming up short. THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES ARE THE 2008 CHAMPIONS IN MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL!!!When I look back at the season through all the highs and lows that this team endured, I had a feeling about them.
There was something special about this group of guys and every single one of them contributed. Sure, they had me seating at the edge of my seat many times. They were even nerve-racking to watch other times. But when August came and I hadn't been to a single game after following them all season, I knew it was time to get there - to Citizen's Bank Park. These guys had a chance and I could sense it. My family went to that game and the Phillies beat the Dodgers. In September, exactly one month later, my husband and I went to a game and saw them beat the Braves.
It was the nail-biting, tail end of the regular season that gripped people the most until the post season began. Once they were in, they were in for the fight. It wasn't going to be like last year they said. And seeing is believing and the "you gotta believe" slogan replayed in our minds and hearts. It wasn't anything like last year when the Phils were swept away in the first series. This year was far different. This year, the fightin' Phillies took game after game in the post season winning, and moving on to the next. As fans, we saw a chance for our team in red; we saw something that wasn't there for a long, long time. This team surpassed expectations way beyond our wildest dreams and they got the ultimate victory. One that hasn't been seen in the area for a quarter of a century.
Yet somehow I knew that it could be done by this team; the team of 2008, and I'm sure many others out there knew too. If you followed them all season from start to finish, the magic was there. They had that special thing that all world champion teams have. The chemistry, the flow, the fluency of playing the game and getting the job done, the style of it all coming together at the right times. It was all there. Every player on the team had a hand in it and getting them to where they are now.
Congratulations to the Philadelphia Phillies!! You are truly number one!
The little butterfly was right, the Phillies did go a long, long way.
